TheView

TheView is a powerful state-of-the-art graphical user interface that will significantly increase productivity accessing a NonStop ™ Server. The Execution Window provides a CLI that is 80% faster than traditional access methods and provides many other features not found in any other product. The interface was designed to look and work like Microsoft Windows ® and Apple's MacOS ® because those interfaces are used by everyone.

TheView has a comprehensive offering of software tools to view and manage files, processes, Guardian subsystems, a Guardian program execution window and a powerful GUI editor.

TheView's customizable interface favors hot key users, toolbar icon users, small laptop displays up to dual and quad monitor configurations. All tool windows have toolbars that can be hidden, detached, individual icons displayed or hidden or create new toolbars. Icons are available in three sizes: 16 x 16, 24 x 24 and 32 x 32. Workspace skins have been implemented allowing each user to define a totally different look and feel of the user interface. This is the most advanced visual interface available!

TheView has implemented Workspaces which allow open tool windows to be organized by software projects, support tickets, or by Guardian UserIds. Tool windows are opened in the currently active workspace. Selecting a different workspace will 'hide' the current tool windows and then 'show' previously opened tool windows for the selected workspace. For users that have multiple UserIds, Guardian UserId Workspaces creates a workspace for each Guardian UserId configured.

TheView is unsurpassed in functionality, performance, ease-of-use, and links NonStop systems to cutting edge technologies.

General Information

TheView's Desktop

TheView's main window is called the desktop where all other windows are displayed. Desktop icons can be created for all of the individual software tool windows saving changed configuration information. Like the displayed directories in the File Tool will be saved. Double-clicking the File Tool icon will open a File Tool and display only the directories that were previously displayed. Icons can also be created for commonly accessed resources like subvols, PC folders, and edit files. Creating a desktop icon for a TACL Macro allows the TACL Macro to be executed when double-clicked.

'Copy To' locations

Every tool window in TheView has the ability to copy some of the window's data to five standard locations: Word, Excel, Print Preview, email window, and a GUI Editor window. For instance, the GUI Editor window allows all or just highlighted text to be copied to Word, Excel, email window, Print Preview window, or a new GUI Editor window. Or, the Find File Tool allows the list of files and match data (if a text search was specified) to Excel.

Workspaces

Another great feature of TheView is workspaces which allow tool windows to be organized by software projects or perhaps support tickets. Also, the UserID used to logon to TheView has a workspace automatically created. Tool windows are opened in the currently active workspace - only one workspace can be active at a time. Selecting a different workspace will 'hide' the currently displayed tool windows and then 'show' the tool windows in the selected workspace. For users that have multiple UserIds, a separate workspace will be created for each UserId.

When a workspace is closed or TheView exited, tool windows that are left open are automatically saved and can optionally be reopened the next time TheView is started or a workspace opened. For example, a software project might have a File Tool, multiple Execution Windows, and multiple edit files opened. When TheView is restarted, a File Tool is created and the saved directory tree is restored, Execution windows are restarted and the command and command results are restored, and each edit file is opened displaying the proper line number, highlighted text, and split panes. Also, for each tool window, the size, location, and the order opened is also reestablished. The amount of time spent in each workspace is tracked and accumulated day after day and optionally displayed next to the workspace’s name.

Restoring workspaces to their previous state really saves time starting a workday, especially on Mondays and after holidays!

Cluster Definition

For sites that have multiple servers at different geographic locations or perhaps by application function, servers can be organized using a cluster name. So, a cluster name might be 'Sacramento' which has 3 servers and a second site with a cluster named 'New York' which also has three servers. When the 'Sacramento' cluster is selected, TheView's tools only show the servers associated with the 'Sacramento' site.

External PC Editor Support

If a third party PC editor is installed and required for special editing operations, it can be configured so that edit files will be optionally opened in the third party editor. TheView will download the appropriate edit file and start the third party editor. The interface can be configured to automatically save edit files back to the server or can be performed as an action by the user.

Security - Encryption

TheView implemented our custom encryption routines providing an extremely secure communication between the client and server. Optionally, SSL can be configured. TheView's default encryption is significantly faster than implementing SSL. The CAIL and Telnet Tool can be configured to use SSH. The FTP Tool can be configured to use SSH or SSL. 100% of all data can be encrypted!

Programmer's Font: Anonymous

Distributed and automatically installed is a programmer's font called Anonymous.

Key Benefits

A common interface for: system managers, programmers, analysts, database administrators, managers and end users. Configure for each UserId or UserId Groups which tools and server resources that can be viewed and managed.

Users are no longer restricted to viewing system resources in a 24 line by 80 character wide window. Imagine viewing a spoolfile or edit file in a 132 character wide unlimited scrollable window. Even the program execution window allows up to 256 characters per line. Using a 17" monitor, TheView will more than double the amount of information that can be viewed at one time.

TheView integrates the PC, Guardian, and OSS file systems providing one single powerful interface. For example, print edit or spoolfiles on a local PC printer, Email the contents of many windows, download spoolfiles directly to Microsoft Word or Excel, and save edit files to the Guardian File System (edit, unstructured, or C Data), OSS text file, or PC txt files.

New users to the NonStop server will 'come up to speed' in days instead of weeks. Experienced users will become much more productive using the advanced features of TheView.
